Mandriva and default host name

I just downloaded the latest version of Free mandriva 2007. When I open any of the windows, I get "user@amontpellier-257-1-113-100.w90-0.abo.wanodoo.fr" onthe title bar. Where is this coming from? How can I change it. When the system boots up it sits at setting hostname for a minute or so before moving on. I am sure this address in France is the reason for the delay.

Any help would be greatly appreacied...

You are getting that hostname because its the one you were given by your ISP using dhcp. You can use your own hostname by starting Mandriva Control Center -> Networking -> Alter miscellaneous Internet Settings and tinker with the settings for your hostname. I think your ISPs dhcp server is a bit slow at issuing you with a hostname and thats why your system just sits and waits till its got one.

I have same problem, although it says `Setting hostname to Localhost` (or similar) I then have to wait for a few minutes, this never happened in 2006, 10.1, 10.2

exacly, I have been using their Distro for years; all worked great until the last two version. Mandriva 2006 was full of bugs and the 2007 takes forever to boot up... I might have to try a different distro....

you can try to run wireshark / ethereal (just before typinc command hostname somename)
after being logged in (without haveing setup an hostname in the confugration)
and see what the net trafic is about

As a side note, in openoffice 2.0.3 there is feature that
looks for the localhost name and get really confused if there is none
and office takes 1 or 2 minutes to start. Maybe this is similar
(ref google dns lookup query openoffice)

thanks you I will try that but I don't believe my ISP is using a DHCP server in France (.fr). I am located in Canada....
