Mandriva 2010 KDE slow to start shutdown

Hello,

I have done a fresh installl on 2 machines of Mandriva 2010 using KDE and amhaveing problems with he OS being very slow to start shutting down from KDE. CLI is fine.

Once I have selected to 'Leave' and get he meus to logout, shutdown or leave, I click shutdown, and it takes ages to start shutting down. Once it has sarted if shutsdown in a normal sort of time.

I have Googled the problem but not found anyting, so was wondering if any one else has this, and if any one has been able to fix it?

Cheers.

p.s. other than that, 2010 seems like a good version

On my installation, once I click on shutdown, a thirty second countdown timer appears on screen. Clicking on turn off computer starts the shutdown immediately.

Yeah that is what I'm getting, but once I click shutdown, its a good wait until it starts to shutdown. All most like its waiting for the timer to count down untill it will react although an option has been clicked.

I started noticing lag time to react to my choice of shutdown action recently in 2009.1. When I installed 2010, it is more prompt. I don't know but wonder if you have added update media and have been doing the updates when announced?

Also, there are some indexing programs that have caused problems by using a lot of cpu, so maybe there is something always running in the background that is slow to wind up its business.

Try running top in a terminal just before you shut down and see if there is something doing work that might be a cause of this.

Hi,

Sorry not to have come back to this tread for so long.. things been very busy for xmas.

I have looked at system processes when shutting down, well starting too and noting odd there.
I also tried gnome and no problem there (that was a fine idea! don't know why I didn't think of giving that ago)

The good new is that issue seems to have completely resolved it's self from updates. I wish I could post which ones, but I did alot all together.

So, thanks for the help you guys and sorry I can't help any one further if they had or are having the same problems.
