Upon downloading and burning both 32bit and 64bit releases of Mandriva 2009(free) plus Mandriva One 2009(32bit)and burning the iso images to disk none will complete an install. The 32bit version of the free version stops at the "Fatal error" message while the other two stall when asked which drive has the distribution. Once selected the installation simply hangs there instead going any further to complete the install.
Note all disks saw successful burns as well as repeat downloads.
The hardware information now in my sig should be a help if you spot an item. The free versions lack a good number of drivers while Mandriva One was downloaded due to having many included. On one older build I ran the 2006 version of Mandriva there where the installation went right on without a fuss. I was hoping the latest would see the same since 2006 added any other OS right into it's own boot loader while auto configuring itself.
I tried entering those commands as well as browsing to the folder where the iso image is stored on an external drive and still didn't get any further. When pressing the esc key after the F3 option it looked like the installation was restarting itself or going to proceed even further until locking up solid just before the progress indicator reached the end.
The one thing found during a search was seen in one wiki pointing to someone having managed to see 2009 installed by way of an external usb optical drive when all else failed. At this point of repeat attempts and not having an external optical drive the thought was on unpacking files from the iso itself into a separate folder on the external hard drive for the next attempt.
I downloaded the cd image for One as well as both the 32bit and 64bit releases of the free version and all three are running into similar problems. The two free versions are not live with the install option but simply live to install or recovery a previous installation with a few other options seen.
At first I thought they would be the run live with the install option used later like other live cds. You select the install rather then recovery option while booting up. The initial boot with the 32bit version of Free immediately saw the fatal error message once the indicator was close to the end.
The site with the download mirrors saw direct links there. You wouldn't come into a page opened up like a folder to look over everything with a definite number like you would if you had to compile everything first in order to create a disk image. I didn't use any bit torrents either but simly selected the country from the selector seen at even possibly the same site you did at http://www.mandriva.com/en/download/free
From there you simply choose the mirror from the list of sources usually a colledge or university. The first two downloads being One and the free 32bit release were downloaded from one location with the 64bit release later downloaded elsewhere after the first saw the installs fail. The burns to disk all seemed good but an alternate site was simply in case one server was having problems. When looking for the 64bit release a few days later I simply choose to download from another location where you saw again was the download prompt and nothing else.
There's no way to verify files from the mirrors since a download prompt simply comes up from the mirror you select asking where the file will be saved. Unlike other downloads seeing a page with the MD5 checksum number and a list of the files enclosed you didn't see any of that there for cross checking. But often those are for compiling the files in order to create the iso while these are simply ready to go cd and dvd iso images already made up and ready to burn once they are on the drive.
I did find a wiki at mandriva.com that will be some use here.
To check your .iso file, download the original md5sum from the mirror where you downloaded the ISO. For instance, if you downloaded mandriva-linux-free-2009-dvd-i586.iso, you will find the file mandriva-linux-free-2009-dvd-i586.iso.md5.asc in the same directory. Download it and place it in the same directory as the ISO file. Then, from that directory, run the command md5sum -c mandriva-linux-free-2009-dvd-i586.iso.md5.asc, and it will let you know whether the checksum matches. If it does not, you must correct the download. There are several ways of doing this. If you have access to a BitTorrent download for the files, try using that and pointing it at the existing files: it should check them, find out where they are corrupt, and correct the problems. You can also try correcting the download using Parchive2: see ISO Download recovery with Parchive2 for instructions. Otherwise, you can simply delete the files and re-download them." http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/Ins...Mandriva_Linux
This will be tried out while booted in ubuntu 8.10 which is already on and readily available. SInce I came across quite a few also having problems with the latest release this will be a help. I don't have a bit torrent but I should be able to verify the files while booted in the other distro with the command mentioned there. Hopefully that will see some better results or at least point out the need to download a new image due to a bad download for each? initially. Yes I found that to be unlikely but will look into this anyways.
I have the same exact problem on my ASROCk motherboard. I have 3 hard drives in it. The boot drive is an IDE and the last 2 are sata.
As long as the sata are enable I get the same symptoms your having.
I disable the 2 sata drive and 2009.0 loaded fine. Once loaded enabled the sata drives booted into 2009.0 and went into drakeconf and added the 2 sata drives.
I am trying to install Mandriva One 2009, KDE, on a Brazilian Positivo Mobo White 1050, which is supposed to be the same machine as MS Wind, from a bootable USB Key. There is a message that rcv already exists and will not be overwritten. After several error messages, it says "Compiling..." and hangs up.
