Is there any chance you could try booting another system with the 2010 CD you burned? I would like to know if it works on another system. If it does work correctly on other hardware, then I suspect something may be wrong with your system. Possibly the partition table. If it is messed up, we may find 2009.1 won't install without issues either.

I would be temped to try a clean install of 2010 first. Only the boot partition has to be formatted. /home and any other partitions can be left alone. It is your choice which way you go.

I have never set up dual monitors, although lots of people have. Never set up a Radion card, my system has Nvidia hardware. As far as I know, there are drivers for Radeon cards.

I have never liked upgrades. I have done them, in some cases successfully, some time not. I have to clean install 2009.1, the upgrade to it from 2009 borked my system. It was a lot less bother to clean install. I made a folder in my /home partiton, copied the config files there, did the install, added the servers I needed, and copied the config files back. It was fairly painless, and everything worked when I was done.

I see your /etc/fstab shows a separate /boot partition:

Quote:
[root@localhost ~]# cat /etc/fstab
# Entry for /dev/sda6 :
UUID=66f5b5a4-c1ba-4b7e-8638-552980949b01 / ext2 defaults 1 1
# Entry for /dev/sda5 :
UUID=0470549a-f1bc-4078-b128-5bf676b82ad7 /boot ext2 defaults 1 2
# Entry for /dev/sda8 :
UUID=962c7d0a-eb9f-4e05-b48d-d35ccff49a0b /home ext2 defaults 1 2
# Entry for /dev/sda1 :
UUID=5A8C2B0C8C2AE26D /media/hd ntfs-3g defaults,umask=000 0 0
# Entry for /dev/sda2 :
UUID=18EF-243B /media/hd2 vfat defaults,umask=000 0 0
# Entry for /dev/sdb1 :
UUID=49D5-657A /media/hd3 vfat umask=000 0 0
# Entry for /dev/sdb2 :

none /proc proc defaults 0 0
# Entry for /dev/sda7 :
UUID=6b93c76b-1c40-48c4-a277-34ae5aa8b36c swap swap defaults 0 0
[root@localhost ~]#
that is not mounted:

Quote:
[root@localhost ~]# mount
/dev/sda6 on / type ext2 (rw)
none on /proc type proc (rw)
/dev/sda8 on /home type ext2 (rw)
/dev/sdb1 on /media/hd3 type vfat (rw,umask=000)
/dev/sdb2 on /media/hd4 type vfat (rw,umask=000)
none on /proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw)

Camorri,

I can't express how much I appreciate your help in trying to resolve some of the important issues I had with my 2010 install. Unfortunately, because of the inability to access some of the files off sda2, for time sensitive reasons I had to reinstall 2009.1 on my desktop. Everything is working perfect again; except the lack of dual monitor which I will just learn to live with until I finally find the answer. Dual monitor is not a deal breaker though...not like the other issues I had.

I still plan on booting the 2010 Live CD up on my son's desktop. I expect it to work fine though, since 2010 works fine on his computer (upgraded through MCC). The fact that 2010 as installed on my computer (through MCC) and the Live CD of 2010 both acted the same way on my desktop, tells me that I have a hardware configuration that 2010 didn't like. Maybe it's my ASUS A8V Deluxe M/B?? Whatever it is, 2009.1 didn't have any problems.

Anyway, big thanks on your time and efforts to help me!!!!!!!!!

Take care,

DECEPTOR

You are most welcome. I'm disappointed we were unable to resolve the issues you had. Asus board, hmmm. I guess it's possible the DH controller or main board are the problem.

It might be worth some time for you to post the problem on MandrivaUsers.org. If you do, list the steps you went through, ( the main ones ), and include the hardware information, just in case this is a hardware problem.

Best of luck.
