You shouldn't be downloading Flash from Adobe.
When using Linux it's always better to get software from repositories.

Head over to:
http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/

Click on Add PLF medias.
(PLF is a repository for Mandriva software that for various reasons cannot be provided by Mandriva directly)

Once done. Run Install and Remove Software (rpmdrake)
Search for flash-player-plugin and install it.

There are a few things we need to know regarding your question about what you may be doing wrong installing and using flash. Is your system 32 or 64 bit? Which WEB browser do you use? Are you installing the 32 or 64 bit flash plugin?

If your system is 32 bit, and you use Firefox, after installing the Adobe flash plugin, you may have to copy it to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.

If your system is 64 bit, you use Firefox, any you install the 64 bit flash plugin to /usr/lib64/flash, you will have to copy the plugin to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins.

If you do not use Firefox, you will have to locate the plugins directory for your browser, and copy the flash plugin file there.

You will need root authority to manipulate (copy, move, or delete) any files under the /usr directory or any of its sub-directories.
