Mandriva 2008 Spring freezes after logging in

Hi
I have also just installed spring 2008 and my system freezes when starting up x. When I say freeze I mean no keyboard or mouse and have to reboot from the power button on the box. I get the startup sound and three quarters of the way through the computer locks up. I get a warning message about logging into a gui as root but before I can click to close it it locks up.

If I start in safe mode it doesnt lock up at all and works fine.

My hardware is a gigabyte GA-K8NS mother board with onboard sound (nForce3 AC97) and network nforce3 250 chipset
a ATI radeon 9200 pro
an AMD Athalon 62 processor 3200+

I get no warnings or error messages

I had 2006 running fine with no problems prior to this/

Not to worry now. I have disabled ACPI at boot and that fixed the problem thankfully
