Hi,
I have been using Mandriva 2006 for a while now and have been very pleased with it. So when 2007 was released, I immediately decided to upgrade. Since the 2006 edition worked on my laptop, I assumed that 2007 would too. However, although the install works fine, as soon as Mandriva boots up, instead of the X Windows System loading, I am presented with the CLI. When I type 'startx', I get the error:
Code:
(==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
Using vt 7
(EE) No devices detected.
Fatal server error:
XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server: "0:0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
Now, as I stated in the title, my laptop uses the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400. Naturally, during the installation, I set the display driver to "Radeon (fglrx)". It seems, on the face of it, that this driver is causing the problem. Running XFdrake and setting the driver to the Radeon (fbdev) means I can start X but obviously the performance is bad. Why won't the ATI Proprietary drivers work?! I do not want to use any of the other standard drivers as they don't support hardware acceleration (I may be be wrong?!).
Any ideas...
Thanks.
