I have a single internet connection. I can ping websites, I can use Kopete or Gaim all day and send files back and forth with it and have no issues, but surfing doesn't work
Hmmmm that is very strange.... I had also in the past a problem like this: instant messaging was working but browsing no and it turnd out that my ISP service was not working correctly... maybe you should call your ISP and ask if there is everything OK....
I really didn't like configuring Shorewall through the MMC or even with Webmin. I uninstalled those and just used Firestarter to configure iptables. Then tweaked it with Webmin and set it to start on boot-up. You can have Firestarter sitting there for a few days and make any changes on the fly if needed...say opening up an extra port for Azureus then make the changes permanent with Webmin. So much easier than hunting through man pages for commands to enter from a konsole.

My ISP is fine, I have 4 other computer in my network that all work perfectly fine (Win XP machines).
