Mandriva 2007 - Kde breakages

Mandriva 2007. I seem to break kde everytime I load a new theme via, kde control centre, themes > install new theme.

Because the desktop windows crash, wont float and the advance menu is not accessible even via hotkeys, some windows stick and are offset of the screen preventing acess to buttons too, it makes it very hard to use and has resulted in more than one or two re-installations.

I have to re-install everything because rebooting doesnt cure the problem and being a newbie I wouldnt know where to start.

If anybody could explain how you deal with a trashed kde I would be grateful.

KDE on Mandriva 2007 has always worked perfectly for me and I am using themes I compiled from source. Maybe your KDE settings are somehow messed up. Try creating another user, logging into KDE as that new user and change the theme to see if you experience the same problem. If the problem persists, then there is something wrong with your KDE installation. If the problem is only affecting your old account, then you somehow borked your KDE settings.
