mandriva 2006 iso public release date ???

Hello,

Anybody has any idea as to when Mandriva 2006
iso for public will be released.

According to the last release it should have been
released by the 21st of Oct.

Why is there so much delay ???

Is it of bug fixing issue ?

Thanks

Varun

I am not sure when they will be released. You may be better of emailing the Mandriva people and asking them, this way you would get more accurate info instead of speculation.

last i heard it was Nov. 4th for the isos on the site. but, you can get a net install iso now from the mandriva site.

Normally it is within 15 days of club members
release.

They should realize it is quite lousy to do this.
They will only end up losing users.

Specially with opensuse.

Infact I am not seeing any great reviews really.

Maybe I should also shift to OpenSuse.

You can also join the club since Mandriva needs to make money to pay developers.

I'm familiar with net install isos, I've installed Debian like this. What is the file name for the net install iso on the Mandriva 2006 public mirrors? I've looked through the directories and there are several isos that may be the net install iso.
Thank you for any replies.

It should be the boot.iso that you need.

thunderweasel 10-30-2005 04:25 AM

I did the net install a few days ago, the file is "boot.iso" and it's in the "install" folder, in the subfolder "images". Pop it in, choose your installation method (I did FTP), then put in your mirror and let it go. Takes a lot longer than installing direct from disc, just so you're prepared. Awesome release, by the way. I can honestly say it's the best version of Mandrake/Mandriva yet that I've used. I started with 10.1, upgraded to 10.2 (2005 LE), and this one blows them all out of the water. The KAT desktop search environment is great (you can actually search more than one folder without Konqueror crashing). Runs quite a bit zippier on my laptop than previous versions too, and features the newest versions of most software (with OpenOffice being the exception, I uninstalled it and installed 2.0). USB device auto-detection actually works now too (was spotty for me before). I gave OpenSuse a try right before this, and I've used 9.2 and 9.3 as well, and I vastly prefer Mandriva. All about which one suits you best, I guess.

Thank you reddazz and thunderweasel. I thought it might be the boot.iso. I appreciate your confirmation. Yes, I've read awesome things about Mandriva 2006.:D

Thank you reddazz and thunderweasel; I've downloaded, and booted from the boot.iso CD. I've selected my download mirrors, partitioned my HD, and am now downloading hdlist_contrib.cz.
So far so good, the net install is chugging away. Yes, a net install does take a lot more time than a CD install. I can wait.:D
Thanks again.

later,

I've been running 2006 for one day and I love it; this is a vast improvement over 2005!!:D

I like it as well, but as usual some people are complaining that its not a good release.

I've only tinkered with it for 20 hours or so, so my final opinion is a long ways off, but my two biggest complaints about 2006 so far are: choosing grub during install still destroys my system, both linux and windows partitions (just like my 2005LE did); resolution is horrible, seemingly because of x.org issues. I found some workarounds for the x.org issues I hope to workaround my system with tonight, and I'm so tired or rererereinstalling linux and windows I'll just stick with lilo for now. Hopefully the x.org thing is resolved soon (I see updates to xfdrake already which some bugzilla tickets on mandriva's bug site hint at being related to the graphics problems).
