Mandriva 2006 ATI rage XL problems

I've managed to install Mandriva 2006, but with a problem.. I've got an Asus NCCH-DR server mainboard with an onboard ATI Rage XL VGA. The problem is when i do a test with all settings i made for an ATI rage XL ( It detected automaticly ) it crashes.. I've tried almost every ATI driver that's in setup, but i can't seem to start X without crashing..

I'm able to start X with default VGA drivers but only on 800x600 8dpi. Then when i start X it's all f00ked up and i can't do anything.. I'm a bit stuck now and need some advice.. I'm a beginner with mandrake.. Thanks in advance....

When i try to install Mandriva 2006 in "normal" mode it crashes and it only gives me a black screen after i select enter to install. Tried all the options like "acpi=off", "noapic", "apm=off" etc..

The only way i thought could work was not starting X on startup and install the ATI dirvers in text mode.. But since my onboard NIC's aren't working either i'm stuck.. Any advice is helpfull.

Edit : I've seem to managed to get my NIC's to work.. Now i need to install the ATI drivers in text mode and then try to start X ? Anyone be so kind to gimme a hint

Have you got the updates for it? There's an Xorg update. You can get use urpmi.addmediafrom the command line followed by the url. You can get that from easyurpmi.zarb.org. Here's the url for a uk mirror:

urpmi.addmedia --update updates http://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/mir.../main_updates/ with media_info/hdlist.cz
