Mandriva 2005 LE Install Problem

I am trying to install the latest version of the Mandrivia 2005 LE DVD but after i agree to the license agreement in the install i get the error message:

an error occoured
insmod'ing module scsi_mod, sr_mod failed

I am trying to install the latest 32bit version from the dvd iso i downloaded from the mandivia site.

I have windows xp already installed but have left 20gb of space for the linux install.

Does anyone know what could be causing this error? Or does anyone know how i can get more detailed error message about what is going wrong?

I am a windows power user and work in IT but i am a bit of a linux noob.

Thanx in andvance

I'm not sure if the error is related to the drive or not, but in any case I strongly recommend adding a second harddrive to install any version of Linux onto. It just prevents a lot of problems that can occur when putting both OSs onto the same drive, also the 2nd hd method will leave the win drive intact without changing it's boot sector. There are more details on my website.

at the moment i cannot really install another drive on the machine as i am running out of space in case. Also i only just brought the 320GB drive i am currently using and was hoping i would not have to buy another disk quite so soon.

I was able to install fedora core on the machine and dual boot between the two but fedora does not like my ATI X800 card which caused all sorts of problems.

How would i go about diagnosing the error further to try and find out what is causing this?

Mandriva 2005 LE Install Problem

Is your hard disk defragmented. I had this problem with Mandrake once and it turned out that Windows had scattered files all over the hard disk. Don't know about LE as I installed that over another linux distro but it didn't used to be able to move files, only change the size of the ntfs partition if the space it wanted was empty
Hope that's useful
