Mandriva 2005 LE

Does the kernel source come with the three free ISO's or do I have to download it separately?

I would say yes, it does come with the 3 ISO's that you can download. I vaguely recall doing this with Mandrake 9.1. Worse comes to worst, you can still get the kernel-source using URPMI.

You can test if the kernel source is loaded by going to the Software Installer

Mandriva Control Center-> Software-> Software Installer -> type kernel as a search term, and look for kernel-source as a result.

But I think the point of him asking is so he knows in advance BEFORE installing Mandriva to save him time, or whatever. Maybe one of us who already has Mandriva installed freshly from the 3 ISO's (and did not set up his or her URPMI) can confirm this. I am using SuSE now so I cannot verify with confidence.

What do you mean 'worse comes to worse'? You would usually use urpmi to get if it came on the CDs anyway.

To the OP yes I believe it is included, judging by the package list for the 'discovery' edition of 10.1 which should be farily similar to 2005LE, http://qa.mandriva.com/distro/10.1-disco.cd
If not its a 45MB download.

Either way you should go to http://easyurpmi.zarb.org and setup access to the software repos because 3CDs worth of software is fairly limited.

i don't have that option in the control centre

Its in there. It might be a descriptive name like "look at installable software..." anyway its directly linked in the menus as System->Configuration->Packaging->Install Software

Here's what you do to get the proper kernel source packages for Mandriva 2005LE Community ( and I would assume official as well. )

Goto http://easyurpmi.zarb.org and follow the instructions to set up the correct RPM repositories.

THEN you can type in "urpmi kernel-source" in the console OR goto MCC and Install Packages from there and you will have the option of installing a stripped version of the source code from there (just the stuff you need to build driver modules and etc.)

Hope that helps!

Can you be more specific as to which option you do not have? Do you have a software installer?
