Mandrakemove CD wont boot : nvidia pb

Hi,

I'm a new guy in Linux in its not starting to hot for me !

A friend gave me a mandrake move CD to try and it won't boot.

Here is My PC config :

Abit KR7A motherboard
XP1700+ processor
256mb ram
1024*768 LCD screen
Leadtek GeForce 3 Ti200 64Mb graphic card

Here is the error message :

Using config file : "etc/x11/XF86Config-4"
Using vt7
NV: could not open device /dev/nvidia0 (Input/output error)
NV: Could'nt map fb (0xdc000000, 671884M) on dev/nvidia0 (no such device)
Hint : there may be a limit restricting the amount of virtual mem available to Xfree86. It may be a good idea to check the startup script for something like :
ulimit -v <number>
and either boost this value or delete the line

(EE)Nvidia(0) : Failed to int the nvidia kernel module
(EE)Nvidia(0) : *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screens found but none have a usable config

Fatal server error : no screen found
XIO : Fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on Xserver

MANY THANKS FOR ANY REPLY;

Bye

type XFdrake at a command prompt (as root.......type su at the login, hit enter). that will run the graphics card set up module. select the proper drivers. it would be something like GEForce(number) generic. test the configuration to make sure it works, apply the settings, then change to normal user (type exit (enter) at the prompt) & type startx (enter)

Hi, Otis,

I did as you said but I don't get the root prompt. I only get this

boot :

So I typed XFdrake and I got this :

boot: XFdrake
could not find kernel image : XFdrake

I suppose I am not typing this in the right prompt so I tried su getting the same message

could not find kernel image : su

Thanks for your reply

In fact when the CD starts, you get a first kind of menu with 2 options :

- one is called more options where i get this prompt "boot :"
- the other just boots without question

I don't have much choice
