mandrake10 adsl connection dropped

i just installed mandrake 10 today this is my first time using linux. every things cool far but..... I can't stay connected to the internet for more then 10 - 20 minutes. i'm logging on with

mmc > adsl > PPPoE >

then my log in information
a-k-a
user name
password

and then I restart my computer.

after reading some of the other posts I tried typing in my isp dns sever and some the other info I got from windows. ..... yet I still only get 10 golden minutes of internet.

i'm kind of out of ideas, if any one can help me out.

I'm all ears baby!

thanks-

The log file should tell you why you are being dumped out.
Try this,

cat /var/log/messages |grep ppp |grep "Jul 23"

Or you may have to open messages with a text editor. This could take several minutes depending on the size of messages.

Sorry about the delay.
After a great deal of research it seems quite a few people had this problem. And none of them ever seemed to have solved it.

The problem: Your machine sends a padi packet to the network then waits for a pado packet in response. If this doesn't work you wont connect at all. The fact that you are connecting then losing your connection means it is an intermittent problem (the worst sort).

Possible causes: The phone line is bad. Unlikely unless you live somewhere weird like Siberia or the American mid west.
Your cables or plugs are knackered. Worth checking.
The drivers are not configured/installed correctly. Most likely. The roaring penguin site says if you are getting this problem, upgrade to 3.5. This version comes with 9.2 so should also be with 10, though it is worth checking just to be on the safe side. Also check your usb drivers are fully installed.

Suggested solution, bearing in mind I don't use mandy 10 or an ethernet connection, uninstall then reinstall your rp-pppoe package and start again.

its seems to be a software issue when I run windows the connection is fine. and when I run suse 9.1 off a cd its fine. but suse linux won't install so I'm stuck with mandrake for now. thanks for the help i'll try and monkey with the roaring penguin but I think i might be to new to linux to compile and install at system service. but i'll keep you posted .

if I didn't hate windows so much i would claim its not that bad and just stick with it.
