Mandrake Official 10.1 could not install on DELL OPTIPLEX 320

Hello folks,

I try to install Mandrake official on the DELL OPTILPLEX 320 machine, at the first when boot from Linux CD, it halt with the screen display "Detecting USB devices", while it takes so long(over 20 mins) that I have not patient to wait.

Therebefore, I have to install M$ XP. After the XP installed, I download the latest VMware 6.0 and try again to install Mdk10.1 on this virtual system, yes, the installation skip the USB detecting process, however, I could not start X server within this MDK.

Ths strange is, there're four screens in the vmware windows, and I can input root/passwd in the command line. The only trouble is, X server starts failed.

Does anyone meet the same issue before?
Please help me fix it. If can not resolve, I'll install RHEL on this annoying dell machine.

Regards,
Phillip

10.1 is very old, not just time-wise, but also on the technology side.
- Menus changed from old Debian system to freedesktop.org standard.
- /dev handling changed from devfs to udev.
- Hardware detection changed to the current de-facto standard, and is WAY more complete.
- Drivers are a LOT more up-to-date, especially those related to WiFi, TV tuners, and graphics cards.
...

I could go on like that... In short, there were so many changes, that you can't expect anyone to remember how things were "in those days" to help you when you have problems.
Besides, community feedback has never been so good for a new release. For once, 2007.1 may indeed be the best Mandriva release ever...

Be sure to download 2007.1, also known as "2007 Spring", not 2007.0.

Yves.
