Hi folks,
As a first time Linux user, trying to boot-up from a sample CD version of Move, I am encountering an error message stating "No CDROM device found".
I have typed in all the suggested command prompts, but still no luck.
Checked BIOS and the CD drive is number 1 in boot sequence.
Any help or suggestion appreciated!
First welcome to LQ.
Have you tried the cd in another computer to see if it will boot? Did you burn the cd or was it a commercial cd?Many people have trouble burning **.iso cd's ..The *.iso's require special techniques for burning rather than just data burning..
Thats all i can think of for the moment..

The Move series Live CD's are all based on older Mandrake releases. The Linux Operating System has changed significantly since Mandrake changed its name to Mandriva following the merge with Conectiva. If your computer is relatively new, Mandrake Move may not support your hardware. You may have better luck if you try Mandriva-Spring-One-Gnome or Mandriva-Spring-One-KDE. Both are available for download if you have a Broadband Internet connection and a CD burner. Both versions are essentially the same with the exception that one provides the KDE desktop environment and the other provides the Gnome desktop environment.
Thanks for the replies guys! To jolphil, the CD was included in the book I purchased [U]Test Driving Linux[U]by David Brinker,(2005). Not a bad book, but the CD is useless. And to ernie, thanks for your info! My desktop was manufactured Jan. '06, so maybe a bit too new. Can download and burn CD's, but still on a dial-up, would probably take forever to download. Broadband is just now finally being made available here.
I just went to CheapBytes and searched for Mandriva One. They have both Mandriva One KDE and Mandriva One Gnome available for $4.99 (US) each. This appears to include shipping. If you can not download the iso image, perhaps you can order the CD ...
