Mandrake Install

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to do to install Linux with my install cd 1. When I boot my pc with the first of the three Mandrake disks in the cd drive nothing happens. Win XP loads as normal.

Looks like you may need to change your boot order in BIOS. To do this you'll have to press the delete key (this is the normal key for accessing the BIOS of a motherboard however sometimes there are variations, check your mobo manual). Once your in you need to look through maybe...let's see hummm. Try these

Standard CMOS Features
Advanced BIOS Features
Advanced Chipset Features
or
Integreted Devices

Somewhere in there you should find the boot order, make sure to set the CD-ROM drive in the first position.

if Win XP loads as normal then I dont think this is a bios issue.

you say Mandrake
is that Mandrake 10.0, 10.1 or what

as was pointed out recently 10.0 had an issue with Cd1 not booting but CD2 would - you could try that

did you buy the disks or burn them yourself
what do you see if you try to view the disk in windows

what sort of hardware do you have
mobo, cd drive, vid card,
everything

Hi,
If windows boots and your media does not it's most likey not the bios..I would look at the media itself, such as,did you burn these disks? if so how? as an iso image? Will your disk boot on another computer?
Just some thoughts...

Mandrake install

I have my Bios in the right order to boot from cd drive. I tried to load the disk on another computer and it won't do anything. When I look on the disk it has the iso on it but win xp can't open the file. I tried to open it from command prompt with no success.

Hi,
To me it sounds like you didn't correctly burn the iso image. If you look on the cd and it has 1 file with .iso at the end it is not correct. Here is a link that might help you. It gives directions on how to burn an iso image with either Nero or Roxio..
