Mandrake Graphics Drivers
Hi,
I installed Mandrake 9.1, but I was wondering how I could install my graphic card drivers. I'm no linux expert, so does anyone have a simple solution ? I've got an ATI Radeon 9000 Mobility. Thank you at advanced. Greetz, Wezel . |
I'm not an ATI user, so I'm not familiar with the technicalities involved in the driver installation, but you should go to www.ati.com and download your latest 3D accelerated drivers. There should be an RPM or something like that.
As I recall there are detailed step-by-step instructions there. Your main concern would be to get the dirvers first. I've tried once to install them and they seemed pretty straight-forward. My inly problem was the drivers did not support the old ATI. People have problems installing NVidia drivers. They're a little different. |
Yes, go to www.ati.com as the above poster mentioned.
After downloading it, go into your console and the respective directory and type this Code:
rpm -i thefilename.rpm Code:
fglrxconfig |
Thank you for your reply.
When I want to download one of the drivers, I need to know the version of 'Xfree86 version' (no idea what that is) You can download a script to find out what version you have. I did this, but have no idea how to run this script from a commandline... Any ideas ? Thanx. Wezel. |
Hi,
I figured out wich XFree86 version I'm using in Mandrake, and downloaded the matching installation file. However the installation seemed to fail... First the installation asks to install following packet too: (12 MB): fglrx-4.3.0-3.12.0.i386 After pressing OK: signature is not correct, continue ? If I press ok I get an error message that says there were problems at installation: file usr/x11r6/lib/libgl.so.1.2 from install of fgrlx-4.3.0-3.12.0 conflicts with file from package XFree86-libs-4.3-5.mdk Any ideas ? Thanx Wezel. |
