Mandrake Community 10.0--Warning

Just an FYI--I was going to install Mandrake Community 10.0, but thought I'd install it thru my MS Virtual PC, which really gives you a pretty plain-vanilla hardware setup...and it couldn't even install correctly--could not write Grub or LILO to boot sector, couldn't find my plain ol' Netgear NIC. If this is a preview of how it will install on my real system, I think I'll wait until 10.1...maybe. Just a couple cents worth of wariness. Thanks.

Hey thanks for the half ars try and the half ars review.

Since following directions is totaly against your way of thinking next time realise this. A VIRTUAL machine means your running one OS INSIDE another at the same time. You therefor have no use for the boot loader to choose your OS.

Next time why don't you try the live version of Mandrake that fits on one cd and installs nothing to your PC? By the way you'll have to change the boot order in your BIOS but someone of your obvious inteligence should be able to figure that out with out our help.

Thumbs up Installed Perfectly Fine For Me

1. I just downloaded the 3 ISOs in 1-1/2 hours and did a md5sum on them.

2. I burned the ISOs to CDs with cdrecord with the command line.

3. I rebooted with CD 1.

4. Installed it with Gnome, Developer Tools, Docs, Mozilla and other WWW client stuff, Apache and other server stuff.

5. Rebooted and addeded "MII_NOT_SUPPORTED=yes" to ifcfg-eth0 so my ethernet card would come up on boot to connect to the time sync server.

Everything works perfecty.

I have only ever had one ethernet card not work out of the box in Mandrake and installing the driver for it fixed that little problem.
At the time it was my first fix in linux and it did seem daunting but a little reading a googling gave me enough to start and boards like this one helped finish the install.

All he needed do was ask a question or two and a dozen people would have jumped to help.
