Mandrake and Mozilla

Hey guys,

I don't know about firefox it relation to this issue bc I have yet to try it, but....

If you install Mozilla from a Mandrake RPM, everything is fine...however if you download the package form Mozilla's site and install it you can only open one instance of the browser. Whenever you open another instance, the browser pops up its annoying ass profile manager that I wanna kill and wont let me actually use the browser (bc all I want to use are my default settings...). Is there any way to get around this profile manage issue so I can update my Mozilla w/o actually creating like 10 duplicate profiles or something stupid like that?

Also, does firefox have an email component or would I just be using it as a browser if I installed it and then be continuing to use Mozilla mail as my email client?

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Wow, that is so weird...i just installed firefox via rpm and the same thing happened to me...i have to open a new window from within...i was just coming here to find an answer...and yes, it sucks!

I noticed that about the profile manager popup, but I didn't have time to mess with it. From what I read about FireFox, it is only a web browser. If you want th e-mail client and other services, you'll have to stick with Mozilla.

there is a standalone email client available called Thunderbird. Also, I had the same problem with Firefox, so I just ran one window with lots and lots and lots of tabs.

It seems to me that there *HAS* to be an answer....I mean....Mandrake has managed to somhow bypass this with their RPMs.... hmm..... I dont think that they'd recode any of the browser...would they...?

No, that's just how firefox is made.

crash_zero 04-13-2004 06:31 PM

...what do you mean its how its made...if its in some versions and not others, then clearly your statement is false: It's not just how it's made but rather an option or a bit of code taken out or changed...

All the versions of firefox I have tried are like that, or am I a bit lost. I downloaded firefox from the mozilla website, mandrake also provides an rpm for it, they both act the same.
Mozilla is a different product to firefox.

To fix this go here: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=177996
Download and run the appropriate patch, and of you go.
Worked for me on Mozilla 1.6 and 1.7b

You need to load it as root in usr/local I use thunderbird and firefox on every desktop/user and no problem.

For loading instructions see the other Firefox installation request yesterday.

Ok, but how can I make Firefox run that launch script? Thanks
