Mandrake 9.2 starts KDE when I want to shut down the computer in icewm
I have a quite weird problem. I've installed Mandrake 9.2 with icewm as default windowmanager. I have also got KDE installed. The problem is, that when I want to shutdown the computer it automatically just switches to KDE, and from there I can normally shut down the computer. After installation it worked fine but now it's like this. I've tried a fixing installation but it didn't help. After the first installation when everything was okay I could log out from icewm, and then it showed a real nice graphical login screen where I could start any windowmanager I wanted or login as another user. I would like to get it back. Or if thats tricky, just get it so that it would shut down the computer directly from icewm.

It shouldn't be so hard to get it working, I just don't know how :)

What is your default window management system set to?

I'm using icewm as I've written. I'm quite shure it isn't so hard to fix the problem, I just need some help.

Please somebody help me! Or do I have to reinstall mandrake?

instead of "default" press on icewn

EDIT: "where I could start any windowmanager" if you didn't know wtf I was talking about, go there again and do it"

Yes, but I can't get to that place where it is possible to do that icewm instead for the "default".

I think the easiest way to solve the problem would be to find a command to shut down the computer and then make a shortcut to that. So what is the command for shutting don the computer in linux?

n00b_juser 07-08-2005 01:31 PM

shutdown -h now is the command, but I need to be root to get it working. Otherwise it would be the best way. So please help somebody.

n00b_juser 08-13-2005 11:05 AM

No, I'm too lazy and want to find an easier solutio...Because there has to be one...

Mandriva 2006 is supposed to be out next month. You could just wait and do a clean install then.

abattoir 08-13-2005 01:12 PM

You could try the command 'poweroff' this works for me(with regular user permissions).

n00b_juser 08-26-2005 09:28 AM

yes, it works, but I cannot create a shortcut for int to the menu because I can't get as root...
