I currently have 9.2 on my machine, along with XP but thats besides the point. I had 9.1 on a few months ago when i first started my Linux experience and had very few problems except with my video card but thats a whole different story. Anyhow, I have a Linksys Router (BEFSR11) attached to my Cable modem. Everything works fine in windows yet when i get into Mandrake i cant seem to use the router. The Network Card (D-Link) seems to be recognized and installed just fine but i cant get any connection. The IP of my router is 192.168.1.1 like most Linksys routers are by default but when i try to access the web based app of the router i get a messege saying unable to connect, connection refused. I went through the whole setup process a few times but couldnt get anything working. I tried letting the DHCP assing me and IP and also giving the PC a static IP but neither worked. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
yes. If my card is installed correctly, and my computer is hooked up to the router correctly and i dont have a firewall on why cant i open up a browser and access the router by entering the address of router or why cant i ping the router?
What about all the necessary information when going through the wizard of setting up a new connection. For example, is a host name required or optional? Which details must i fill in?
I have a very similar setup (BEFSR41 router, cable modem, and D-Link nic(realtech chipset) using the 8139too driver). Had absolutely no problems using dhcp and filled in no details. Here's my ifconfig eth0 output:
Check it against yours and note any differences. Also, check your security settings in mcc>Security. Anything greater than "High" can cause lots of wierd problems. If you ever activated your firewall(shorewall) that can leave stuff behind in your iptables even after you disable shorewall. Post back if this applies.
Thanks guys. I got it working by assigning a astatic IP address and linux what my Gateway was, the host name of the router and my DNS server. After that it connected right away. Now on to configuring my Graphics Card to Work like it should. I got a 9700 Pro AIW and with 9.1 it was a real pain for a noob and i never really got it working ok. Ill do some reading and fooling around and prob be back to ask some questions. Thanks again
