Mandrake 9.2 install CD hangs, but 9.1 works
 

Having networked my two Mandrake 9.2 computers together, I enthusiastically got my dad to buy a new Compaq 2.7GHz Athlon and proceeded to install Mandrake 9.2. But the installation CD hangs when trying to boot the kernel. On the other hand, Mandrake 9.1 works, so that's what we installed, much to my chagrin.

What the heck could be in the 9.2 kernel that makes it hang when 9.1's doesn't? Is there some way we can boot from some alternate kernel without the built-in Mandrake mojo, so we can at least get 9.2 done? I'm almost hesitant to install 10.0 if this is what's going to happen.
