mandrake 9.1 and kernel-2.6.3
Hi all,
i am trying to compile kernel-2.6.3 for the ATAPI cdrom support. from what i have gathered from variuos forums and google, i need to install
module-init-tools-3.0 .
i have tried installing this, but get a few conflicts with the modutils that was installed when i installed Mandrake 9.1.
i tried using urpmi to install the tools, but it wanted to un-install most of my linux O.S.
I have read various documentation on 2.6.3 and one suggestion was to go to kernel.org and use a backward compatible modutils-2.4.20-23. I did this but on re-boot all i got was a huge list of errors complaining about modutils-2.4.20-23, and an un-workable system.
i am now back to normal with the original mandrake 9.1 kernel.
Is there a way i can compile 2.6.3 without the module-init-tools-3.0 or can anyone point me in the right direction to be able to install the module tools.
cheers
