mandrake 10 unable to configure network
man why does this have to be so hard. all i want to do is get on-line. The network wizard asks me questions that i have no clue about and i can not find help. I am running a newer model linksys router. so i choose connect to the internet using lan. it seems to recognize my nic card fine. so then it wants to know all these names. why? who cares it is a dhcp server so just get the stupid number and lets role. no way, i have to try and figure out what zero conf means? give my computer a name? why do i have to supply my isp's dns when all that info is already in the router. this shit is driving me crazy. if i don't get help soon i am going to use dariks boot and nuke and reinstall xp. I thought mandrake was the easiest friendliest linux distro for beginners.

Nervous? No need to be. After selecting Automatic IP just keep clicking "next" until finish. You don't need to type any host names at all. |
same problem
well this is my first post here, so im not sure if this has already been answered, but i have the same question. I did both ways of configuration, manual and dhcp, and both asked for the zero conf name both ways. What exactly is this, and how do i configure the network. Any help?

I agree that all this stuff in Linux is way too complex... but it is fun too! Matja is right, just clicking next worked for me.
