Hi, When installing Mandrake 10 with the default kernel option of 2.6, the machine locks up at various stages without completing the installation process.
If I however select the 2.4 (alt-1) kernel option every thing works as expected.
Any ideas of how to fix this?
Hi --- if everything works as expected with a 2.4 install, why not go with that?? Use Mandrake for a while and then think about upgrading the kernel. I'm running mandrake 10 with both the 2.6 and 2.4 kernels (on different boxes ) and I really can't see any huge difference (yet) ---- why do you want the 2.6 kernel??
Go on.
Enjoy 2.4 for a while.
I downloaded 10.0 official and I'm using kernel 2.6.3.9. I had problems switching from the 2.4 kernel b3ecuase there was a problem with lilo updating one of the drives. After formating the drive, I was able to switch completely fo the new kernel.
Besides that there has been no problems with the new version of mandrake and the new kernel. I'm very happy with it so far... I upgrade last monday,....
Yeah, if the main difference beetween the kernels is smt & 4GB mem support, I have no need for it. Itīs just the mindless need to have the latest thing, really...
