I try to upgrade my Mandrake 9.2 with the new 10beta2, but during the installation , after I have chosen to upgrade the 9.2 and I have accepted the license I receive a message that sounds something like that: "Ooops I can't find root partition" and I can do nothing more, I can only click OK and the window reappears with the same message.
I tried to select also the english language (not italian) or the expert mode but nothing changed. If I select install mode (not upgrade) it seems to go on, but I would like to upgrade, not to install and obviously I don't agree with their intentions to format my hard drive...
Do you think I have downloaded 1950 MB for nothing? Do you think there is a solution for this? Is it a known bug? (I have found nothing similar in this forum)...
You could try searching the r10 bug list. You have to spend a minute setting up an account in order to send a bug, but if it helps smooth out the new release, all the better.
10.0B2 - Upgrade Fails on Asus A7V600 system due to using p-ata rather than s-ata disks.
The (2.6.1) kernel the installer runs enumerates the sata ide interfaces before
the pata ide interfaces. It then becomes confused - complains it can't find the
root partition (which it had already found - and asked if I wanted to upgrade
"10.0 Cooker")). A similar issue existed a long while ago in MDK 7(?) or so
with PCI IDE cards and reverse enumeration.
Workaround: boot with the 2.4 series install kernel or pass ide0=... ide1=...
but neither of this is elegant. The latter is certainly not appropriate for
newbies.
I have exactly the same motherboard and the same problem
You need to make a bootdisk with one of the images in the images/alternatives/ directory on CD1. I would think you would use cdrom.img-2.4.25-0.pre7.2mdkBOOT. Just go to the alternatives directory and do the following with a floppy in your drive.
The kernel /bin/bash/ suggested doesn't work for me because the kernel module agpgart doesn't work right.
You might not have the same problem since i am running an intel 810 graphics card.
But I just wanted to let you know
