Mandrake 10 and DVD-RAM?

I found a rally good deal on a DVD-RAM drive... What is Mandrake 10's support for it like? Supposedly you can write to one of these things like a giant floppy. Obviously I would need a DVD-RAM disc and a DVD-RAM drive. Does it work this way, or is it an "in theory - this" but in practice its crap?
