You all knew someone was going to bring this up! So here it is:
I am currently running a 32bit processor, and i am going to upgrade to 64bit within the very next short while, and i was wondering if it is possible to just upgrade my kernel and then recompile the existing software (or is this going to be a huge pain in the arse?). Or would i be better off just getting hold of the 64 bit of Mandrake 10? But i do have some issues upgrading both my software and hardware, i know exactly how my system works, and what issues it has (audio, usb, ide). So i am a little bit aprehensive to upgrade not only to a new motherboard, but to a new cpu architecture. I understand that all my software at the moment will work with the 64bit cpu, but that kind of defeats the purpose of the upgrade! So i would like to know if anyone has success/failure stories with 64bit and mandrake 10.
I run linux/winxp on my pc currently, i am happy to run the 32bit version of windows, but would like to run 64bit linux and get hold of the neverwinter nights source code for linux
and avoid windows as much as possible! I'm also right into networking, so networking based issues especially, if any, would be greatly appreciated!
So... what do we all have to say on the possibility of 64bit Mandrake 10.. if anything?
