mandrake 10.1 sound & package problems
 

The problems i am having are:

When installing or updating the packages it fails, the update states that it cannot find anything (which may very well be true since this is a beta), and when trying to install any from the CD's - it asks for the cd's, and upon inserting them, it fails to load the cd i have put in, which has to be a bug since i installed the distro with the same cd's.

These are the only problems i have found so far with mandrake 10.1 rc1, does anyone know how to work around them? or can you point me in the right direction, i can't seem to find a site dedicated to the bug fixing of mandrake 10.1rc1, i tried the mandrakelinux site but could not find anything of use there.

So if anyone has a workaround for these i would love to hear it!!! Or better yet - an actuall 10.1 debugging forum/website would be good....

set up some update-mirrors with easyurpmi (just google for it). then deactivate your cds as install-source in the mandrake control center. finally, open a console, log in as root and type urpmi --auto-select and your system will get a debugged a bit. :)

You are using Mandrakelinux 10.1-rc1 if I read your post correctly. You should be able to use the Software Media Manager to add ftp sources if you have a fast Internet connection. You will need three. They are all located in the devel part of the mirror tree here

For the first source, in Software Media Manager click the ADD button.
In the dialog which pops up, click the ftp server option.
In the Name text field, enter:

Main

You can choose any name you want, even CD-1. This is the name for the source you are adding.

In the URL text field, enter:

ftp://ftp.proxad.net/mirrors1/ftp.mandrake-linux.com/Mandrakelinux/devel/community/i586/media/main

The above is a single line with no breaks. This is the location (on the proxad.net mirror) of the main file set for Mandrakelinux Community 10.1. You can use the ftp mirror of your choice. proxad.net is the one I use.

Click the check box for Relative path to synthesis/hdlist.
In the associated text field, enter:

../media_info/synthesis.hdlist_main.cz

This is the relative path to the hdlist synthesis file for this source. The file is up one directory, enter the media_info directory, the file is synthesis.hdlist_main.cz

Click the OK button.

The media manager will download and set up the information for the new source.

Then set up the other two sources as above, but with the following names:

contrib
jpackage

the following URL's:

ftp://ftp.proxad.net/mirrors1/ftp.mandrake-linux.com/Mandrakelinux/devel/community/i586/media/contrib
ftp://ftp.proxad.net/mirrors1/ftp.mandrake-linux.com/Mandrakelinux/devel/community/i586/media/jpackage

the following relative paths:

../media_info/synthesis.hdlist_contrib.cz
../media_info/synthesis.hdlist_jpackage.cz

As with the first source, you can use any name you wish. The main directory is similar to CD-1, the contrib directory is similar to CD-2, and the jpackage directory is similar to CD-3 (or is it reversed for CD-2 and CD-3 ...).
