Mandrake 10.1 install problems

Hi, i dont much experiance with linux but i cannot get my downloaded 3 cd version to install. All i get is a blank screen after i press enter to install. The little progress bar moves across the screen then the whole lot locks up. I have tried all of the other options such as lo res and text mode but it still locks up. I decided to try cd1 in one of my old laptops to see if it locks up at the same point but that gets much further into the installation, so i think the cd downloaded OK.
I have just put in a new HD and put on a fresh install of XP and thought this would be the ideal time to do a dual boot install, but i dont even get to the repartioning bit. HELP

Install Problems

it is possible that because your PC has different hardware it then your laptop that when it tries to configure it's hardware that it finds some files missing or corrupted in some way. While your laptop never looks at those files because it does not need to. So you should check your .iso file with checksums.:p

How do i check the checksums on the cd's?

Thanks for the help so far, I checked the CD's and the checksums are OK. Also managed to install onto the old PII laptop in text mode OK (Not a very big HD). The machine i want to install it on stops after it enables the EXTint on CPU#0 and states the ESR value enabling vector is 00000002. Any idea's

I have tried reburning the 1st cd on a slow setting and had the same result. Also i have tried changing the cd drive with another with the same result. I think it may have something to do with the MB. Its a M825ULR by PCchips or eagletec, cant remember which. It has a onboard vga which is disabled in the bios and i have a geforce2 440mx in the AGP port. I did have an installation of 9.2 before i changed MBs and that ran ok. I tried the install disk of the 9.2 and that did the same. ANY IDEA'S

If the 9.2 cd worked before and now none can manage an install, try testing the memory with http://www.memtest86.com/

Hi, just tried that and found one of 128mb sticks had errors. I pulled it then tested again and found that there was no errors on my 256mb stick. So i tried to install linux, again with no success. The screen still just goes blank. I have read that it may be due to there being no support for my motherboards agp. Is there a fix?

Also i have tried removing my gforce card and use the on board vga also with no success. Could it be the 2.6 kernel?

I have now managed to get all the way through the install process by using 'alt1 noapic nolapic' to install after pressing f1 on the intial screen.

At the end of the install there is a section on the post install configuration. In the bootloader part of the this the setting are checked for 'no apic' & also 'no local apic'.

However when i try to boot i get a blank screen. When i try any of the other options in the bootloader apart from windows it stops at the 'determinig delay...' part.

Any Idea's

I have another problem when trying to install mandrake 10.1, I have it from on a cover disk from Linux magazine. I can install fine but when I come to run it it gets to mount USB filesystem wheich is does okay but then it just hangs and hangs, anyone have the faintest idea of what is going on??

I have heard that there are a great deal of problems with mandrake 10.1, any idea when mandrake 10.2 is coming out and will they have got rid of the problems by then?
