mandrake 10.1 CE sound issue (but not 10.0)
 

I've never had problems with sound, but upgrading from Mandrake 10.0 to 10.1 broke multimedia sound, in both GNOME and KDE.

Strangely, Gnome can play system sounds, but neither rhythmbox nor jamboree (music players) can output sound. In KDE, I couldn't output music either. It kind of sucks not playing any music, and I can't figure it out.

I don't know which is the most common these days: alsa, oss, or arts. This system has an alsa service running, but the gnome-sound dialog lists oss.

Any ideas?

jasonv; check the configuration of alsa,oss & arts. it maybe conflicting. i dont use niether. so thats my limit of help given.

there are services alsa and sound, xmms and gnome sounds run out of the box, but rhthmbox and jamboree still can't play any music.

i guess oss is what's current, but it's weird that i can seem to get those gnome apps to work. i might be missing a library somewhere, but i haven't been able to find it.
