Mandrake 10.1 and KAudioCreator
So far Mandrake 10.1 Official is working beautifully except for KAudioCreator. When I put in a CD to rip to the hard drive (strictly for personal use so I don't need to keep hunting down CDs when I want to listen to my legally purchased music) it runs very slowly and won't rip any CDs. Is anyone else having this problem?
I did notice today while browsing through the vast array of Mandrake Software available via Software Installer that the rpm kde-multimedia showed kaudiocreator as one of the packages it would install. How can I already have kaudiocreator installed if Software Installer states that a package I haven't installed contained said software? Confusing, isn't it? I will look tonight through the Remove Packages manager to see what other rpm contains the version of kaudiocreator I currently have installed. Let's see if rpm -q /usr/bin/kaudiocreator does. |
I had the same problem with Kaudiocreator. It took about ten hours to rip one minute of music, and clicking a button had a delayed response of up to a minute. Clearly something was broken in my particular installation.
Rather than trying to fix the package, I removed it and am using Grip instead. It works great--I've had rip times as fast as 5.5x, which is about all I can expect on my (older) system. Just a thought. Grip is available through the Gnome desktop in Mandrake 10.1, but once it is installed, it seems to work fine on both Gnome and KDE. |
I was hoping the recent KDE updates for Mandrake 10.1 would fix the problem, but to no avail. I've used Grip as well, but I liked using KAudioCreator. I wonder what happened between 10.0 and 10.1 that it broke? I didn't find any sources so I'll just stick with Grip. It's sad, especially considering the great improvements overall from 10.0 to 10.1. I wrote more about it on my website on Brianchile.com. Obviously the site is Linux Friendly, considering that I test the site in Firefox 1.0 for Linux. KBear is a good FTP client. I use KWrite as my html editor. I should try Quanta, but I guess I'm too old school.

Here's some "possible" new information. This web page:
http://www.linuxsecurity.com/content/view/106769/106/ mentions Mandrake 10.1 packages that have been updated due to bugs. Now, I don't know if these are the same updates already mentioned by JustSlack above, but, just in case they are not-- In the list of updated packages is kdemultimedia-kaudiocreator-3.2.3-19.1.101mdk.i586.rpm. So, if a bug has been fixed since the release of 10.1, I wonder if one used easyURPMI to get a more recent file from a repository, if this problem would be fixed? I don't know, but I just thought I'd post the info here in case JustSlack or someone wanted to try it. |
Thanks, Steve. I'll check that out, too, because I've had the same experience.
|
well, I have kaudiocreator-3.2.3-19.1.101mdk, and it is still running like a dog. :(
|
I actually have all the available updates for Mandrake 10.1 including the PLF updates and KAudioCreator is still FUBAR. I wonder what happened since it worked very well in 10.0?
