Mandrake 10.0 Official will not finish the install

I've used the same three Mandrake 10.0 Official CDs to install to three different computers. I even had it installed once before on this computer, but now it won't finish the installation. When it gets to the screen about the configuration, I am manually configuring the video and LAN. After that I enter Finish and at that point the computer locks up. Nothing will work except shutting it off.

This is a Compaq Presario 730AP and I previously installed Mandy with these same disks on this computer. I wrote the drive to zero to reinstall and now it just won't finish. When I shut it off, and then reboot, it gives me a text screen to login and I do and then it gives me an error about some file ending in .so not being installed and won't start the GUI.

I wonder if the third disk is damaged, though it looks great. Is there a way to check the disk now that it's been burned, like you can check the md5sum of the iso?

I'm writing the drive to zeroes again and will try the install again later.

Question Disk 4 needed ?

Well, anybody ever been asked for the 4th installation disk ? I install MDK10 yesterday, and after choosing manually the package, it asked for disk #1, then 2, 3... and 4 ? I didn't know there was a number 4...

I've burned a new CD3 and installed again. Same problem as before. It is on the System configuration screen. I have just finished configuring the video card and the LAN connection. I agreed to go online and get the Mandrake updates, but the comp just froze. It's stuck on the Install updates portion.

ionreflex, i believe CD4 is an extra CD with bonus software either for mandrake club member or if you bought a box set. I can't remember my install too well but i remember reading somewhere that you can safely cancel if it asks.

Just to lend closure to this thread. The problem with the installation
on the Compaq Presario 730AP was a bad motherboard.
