mandrake 10.0 boot cd, saving settings on hdd?

how can i save my settings onto my HDD using the boot cd with mandrake 10? i downloaded it and i dont have one of those usb key thingys! also, can i install kde onto it? or wait, does it come with it? and btw if i like mandrake 10, wat files do i need to download for the full version which resides on my HDD?

p.s. do u suggest that i download 9.1 or 9.2 instead of getting 10? this is my first time ever using any linux distro

yeah i don't know if you can write to the hdd in the boot cd version (might be possible mounting the ntfs partition -- but this isn't recommended) mandrake 10 on a whole provides a much completer expierance than 9.2
both are 3 cd's as well, so no real gain or loss there.
if you are an australian resident and on telstra you have access to pretty much any linux distrobution on http://files.bigpond.com./index.php
downloads from there come in at about 600k a second for cable but you probably aren't australian so it isn't much help to you but you might still be able to get files from there not sure.
