Mandrake 10.0 Beta - Worth trying ?

Hi

I am downloading the 3 iso's for MDK 10.0 Beta and while I do, I was wondering if there are too many bugs or if I can go ahead with the install. I am installing it as I wish to try out kernel 2.6.1 and do not want to compile it myself.

Well I grabbed the 2.6.2 kernel from the cooker and am happily using it in this 9.2

I'd expect more troubles from the KDE 3.2.

Hi purplecow

The thing is ,I've been searching all over the net for an easy kernel upgrade how-to but usually end up with several errors too numerous to mention here. So I wanted a distro with the newest kernel included.

But I am happy with Mandrake 9.2 so if you could show me the way I would appreciate some help getting 2.6.1 up'n'running

somehow many people couldn't fix the dependencies what comes with kernel 2.6 in MDK 9.2,included me and I prefer to wait the MDK 10 where kernel 2.6.1 is

I thought I'd get 2.6.1, but I only found 2.6.2-rc1 ... Which is fine.

I looked up a ftp site which had the 10.beta packages, and picked these:

Code:
kernel-2.6.2.0.rc1.1mdk-1-1mdk.i586.rpm
kernel-source-2.6.2-0.rc1.1mdk.i586.rpm
libdbus-1_0-0.20-2mdk.i586.rpm
mkinitrd-3.5.18-1mdk.i586.rpm
module-init-tools-3.0-0.pre5.3mdk.i586.rpm
udev-013-3mdk.i586.rpm
Had some jolly good time with udev requiring kernel-2.6.2 and kernel-2.6.2 requiring udev...
If I remember correctly, I put a cooker source to urpmi and somehow it realized it can indeed find both packages.
After installing those, I had a nice new option in Lilo and ... Well, can't say I notice any differences to 4.2.22 so far.

I used this ftp location:
ftp://ftp.chg.ru/pub/Linux/mandrake-...Mandrake/RPMS/

I have installed the 10 beta 1 on 2 machines.
First Machine: MB ECS-k7s5a, CPU Athlon 1.4G, 512M 40g hd Geforce 4, SB Live 5.1.
Second Machine MB ECS-648fx-A CPU P4-2.6g, 512M 80G & 120G HD Geforce 4, SB Live 5.1.

The first install with out any problems. It's is so much faster in response times than the second machine and not having any problems I decided to install on the second machine. After 2 days trying to get it installed I put 9.2 back on the second machine. No network and very unstable graphics. So depending on your hardware you could be in for a fight or a routine install.
