Logical block error on install

I am having trouble installing 10.1 OFFICIAL. Whenever I boot CD1 and select install I get this..

buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 309 329

Currently I have three partitions on a new Dell 3000 :80gb HD with 256mb ram:
1. Winxp NTFS
2. FAT32
3. NTFS right now but have tried it with others.

Is this a problem with my partitioning or a problem with the iso perhaps?
I am more or less a complete newbie to linux and I need all the help I can get.
I have tried searching the forums for similar problems but none seem to give me what i'm looking for.

Linux assigns device names like this

Usually systems come with a drive connected to Primary Master and a CD/DVD drive connected to either Secondary Master or Secondary slave, or both.

The error indicates a problem reading from the CD.
