Logging in as a root???
I've just installed Mandrake Linux 9.2 on my laptop (Dell inspiron 8200) and I managed to set dual boot along with Win XP. However, there is a problem with the display, my screen is very small when booting with Linux.
I found out from other threads that I need to edit the file /etc/lilo.conf and to change the vga to 791, but when I do that it woun't allow me to save the changes (read-only file) as I'm logged in as a user not root. So, how can I log in as root in Linux.? It's confusing because during the installation process I set the user login and password but for the administrator it asked for a password only??? and also when booting with Linux some times it's not asking for login details??? |
well at a terminal you type :
su - and then you will be prompted for that administrative password if you are at a "login:" prompt then the username is : root and again you will be prompted for that administrative password you supplied ... |
to login as a root:
name: root password: XXXXXX(your root password) if you login as a user and you want to chang to root: go to terminal, then type"su" it will ask for your root password, then you will become root |
Oops, DrOzz answered before me :)
