I have been using LE 2005 for a while on my laptop, and I had an issue a few weeks ago with some bad RAM that was causing all sorts of problem. I got the RAM replaced, but things were so screwed up by then I did a fresh install of LE 2005.
Now I find that whenever I connect/disconnect the AC power, the laptop locks up. If I try to run on battery, it seems to work but then suddenly locks up for no reason (I think the battery level report just changing locks the thing up).
It never did this before. At home, I usually run the unit without the battery even installed, so when I went to put the battery in now the problem crops up.
Is your laptop using apic or apm? You might do a search in packages for one or the other and you'll find a battery monitor package. Can't remember the name of it, but once configured it opens up power saving features.
The laptop is using APIC. I went through the klaptop configuration to see if there was anything in there that might be causing the issue, but that's not it.
I have checked /var/log/messages for entries, but when it locks it never gets a chance to write any.
I tried adding pci=routeirq to the boot, (thinking acpi might be having a problem routing irq's).
I know it is a problem with ACPI, when I turn it off at boot I do not have any lockups. (but the processor fan runs full bore and none of the power management stuff works).
I have dome poking around with ACPI, I just really din't know where to look. If can be pointed in the right direction, I have no problem digging into the thing.
