Unhappy location of kernel /usr/src/linux/include ???????

Installing VMWare tools after installation of Mandrake 9.2 i arrive at:

What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux/include]

At this question, i can't answer...

I have Mandrake 9.2 + VMWare 4.0.5 and I CAN'T install the tools!!!

If i go to check the src directory, i see that it's EMPTY! (only a rpm subdirectory, if i remember right).

I did no upgrade with internet. All installation and prior VMtools steps went right...

Any idea?

Thx in advance!

You need to install the kernel-source for your kernel. If you have the Power Pack software for Mandrake 9.2 then it is on the 2nd disc. If you are using ISO's and cannot find it then you can download it from either Madrake.com or kernel.org.

I downloaded the 3 cd version from internet. Is the right version?

How i can "copy" from one of my cd to target folder? Do i need to use the "autoplay" installation of mandrake linux in the 1st cd at boot?

Thx for your attention!

You should be able to go into drakeconf and under software there is an icon that says "change source of installation" or something like that. Go in there and one of the choices should be your CD/DVD drive, select it and that should allow you to select individual items from the CD/DVD.

Location of the Kernel

To overcome this issue, i went to the install program that is listed under the configuration menu. I searched for kernel and installed the source kernel. I then went back to the usr/src directory and all the correct folders were listed. The source kernel is needed to compile any C programs.

If you have the 9.2 3cd download edition set, the source is not on the cds. You can download the rpm from mandrake, or you can find an update site and add the source to the gui updater as rberry88 details for the cd source.

mmm... it's a real pain if i have to do a lot of work in that damn text console...

If i use Mandrake 9.1 i'll find the same problems with the installation of that OS in VMWare Workstation, or not?
