Localhost problem

I don't think this is necessarily a Mandriva problem, but since that is the distribution that I use, I will post my question here. When I boot the computer, many different commands come up, with either "OK" or "Failed" on the right side. Sometimes when the command saying "Setting Localhost name" comes up, and on the right side it says "OK", and nothing happens.., the OS just doesn't load. In order for it to load, I need to reboot my computer, and most of the time it works the second time.. Any ideas?

If it says 'OK' after 'Setting Localhost name', it might be the next step of the boot process which is causing your machine to hang.

Could you post a tail of your /var/log/messages file.

How much memory do you have? I've installed Ubuntu on an old laptop before and it just gave up mid-boot due to lack of memory.
