linux boot question

Whenever linux boots i get a message that says "You passed an undefined mode number" " Press return to see video modes available or press spacebar to continue or wait thirty secs" and it pauses for a while then boots into linux. This is very annoying can anyone tell me how to make it stop doing that?

you might want to reconfigure x11. Just a guess, but it sounds like something in your x config file is not right.

No, i believe it's a problem in your lilo.conf.

Edit your /etc/lilo.conf -- first become root (type "su") -- then, at a console, you can use "vi /etc/lilo.conf", or in a graphical desktop, use "kedit /etc/lilo.conf" Look for a line starting vga= and try making it vga=788. There may be multiple lines, look for them all.

Afterwards, run lilo to reinstall your bootloader.

If you don't use lilo, ignore this

I've posted the same problem in the Mandrake forum.

The thing is...i'm using grub, not lilo...does grub use /etc/lilo.conf???

SOLUTION:

EDIT /boot/grub/menu.list & replace "vga=0x0122" with the one of the correct modes (i use "0x0f00") --USE LOWERCASE!!!

What led me astray was that the same errant option, "vga=0x0122", was in /etc/lilo.conf.
So i corrected it in lilo.conf, ran "lilo" and rebooted.

The caveat was that LILO took over the boot process from GRUB.

After correcting /boot/grub/menu.lst i rebooted, and the error went away!

YEAH!!!
