I am trying to get my wireless network card working with Mandriva 2005 LE.

lspci | grep 802

Code:
00:0b.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)
ndiswrapper -l

Code:
Installed ndis drivers:
bcmwl5 driver present, hardware present
vi /etc/modprobe.conf

Code:
remove snd-via82xx /sbin/modprobe -r snd-pcm-oss; /sbin/modprobe --first-time -r --ignore-remove snd-via82xx
install snd-via82xx /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-install snd-via82xx && { /sbin/modprobe snd-pcm-oss; /bin/true; }
alias sound-slot-0 snd-via82xx
install usb-interface /sbin/modprobe ohci-hcd; /sbin/modprobe ehci-hcd; /sbin/modprobe uhci-hcd; /bin/true
alias eth0 via-rhine
options snd-via82xx dxs_support=2
alias wlan0 ndiswrapper
When I run the following command:

service network restart

My computer hangs when it is trying to load wlan0.

Any ideas?

Hmmm I think I have the same card. Or it at least uses the same windows drivers...

I have got the ndiswrapper going real easy for me....

I don't know where you are in your install but I can tell you what I did to get mine going and it was very easy.

1) Made a directory in my home directory and put the drivers for windows....

2) Then I installed ndiswrapper from Mandrake Control Center. This seems to install differently and is much easier to install.

3) After ndiswrapper was installed I went into the directory that I made and put the windows drivers. I typed ndiswrapper just to see if it was installed and it was. Then I typed in ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf. THen I typed in the ndiswrapper -l to make sure the drivers were loaded....

4) Then I typed in ndiswrapper -m to put the alias in the modprobe file.

5)Then I put it in modeprobe to autostart... I did this by editing the /etc/modprobe.preload file and adding the line ndiswrapper.

6) Then I went into Mandrake Control Center and added a network connection. When I went to add wireless my card was there and I chose it. I then went throught and chose the appropriate options and my card works.....

If you have downloaded the ndiswrapper file and are trying to do it from that one(that way is really a mess) then I have a good link to use that will help you get the card going.
http://perpetualmadness.com/misc/ndiswrapper.html

If I were you I would use the Mandrake installed ndiswrapper it works a lot better for me.
One thing is I didn't have to install the kernel source. And if you use the downloaded version their is a file I think you have to edit..... Check out the link I gave you. All these "secret handshakes" as I call them to get it going...

Worse case I would follow the link I gave you and do the part about completely removing the installations files and do it the way I have done.

I didn't have to install the kernel source or fool with ifconfig or iwconfig etc. I have done about 5 cards with ndiswrapper and if ndiswrapper supports the cards I have been able to get the going with LE2005 10.2 and the Official 10.1
I hope this helps some.....................................
