LE2005 lost my cdrom drive!

Hi all
I can no longer use or see my cdrom/dvdr drive.

Here is an extract of the dmesg (cdrom is detected)

And here is my fstab (and cdrom is no where to be seen)

Quote:
# This file is edited by fstab-sync - see 'man fstab-sync' for details
/dev/sda7 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/sda9 /home ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/sda1 /mnt/win_c ntfs umask=0022,nls=iso8859-1,ro 0 0
/dev/sda6 /mnt/win_e ntfs umask=0022,nls=iso8859-1,ro 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/sda8 swap swap defaults 0 0
Two things happened which may have had had an effect:

a. my computer lost power suddenly in a power shortage
b. I used hard drake to try to format a usbflash pendrive, and formatted the "sdb" tab, after which mandriva asked me to "reboot", i thought that was strange, and my flash pen turned out not to be formatted correctly... so maybe that sdb was something else?

Could someone point me to somewhere where I could "reinstall" my cdrom drive so that it not only gets recognized by the kernel at startup but also becomes listed as a device? (without reinstalling LE2005 if possible...) thanks for your help

As an IDE drive your dvd-rom should show up as hda. It might be as simple as mounting /dev/hda /mnt/cdrom and saving the changes to fstab.

Here is the fstab entry for my dvd r/w
/dev/hda /mnt/cdrom auto umask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-15,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec,users 0 0

You could copy that into your fstab instead. Then" # mount -f" withour the quotes will mount everything in your fstab.

Your usb drive should have shown up as sdb provided you only have one SATA drive and no SCSI devices.

SOLVED

I finally resorted to the the M*ft method: Backup your /Home and reinstall... I am ashamed but could not spend more time debugging this issue!

And now my /etc/fstab is back to normal, cdrom drive is where it should be, in /dev and /mnt

Thank you for your help
