LE2005 & Firefox + Thunderbird problem.
Hi all,
Did a fresh install of LE2005 from the 3 ISO CDs. I downloaded Thunderbird, and uncompressed it, tried running it and I got the following error:
*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x08ee8ec0 ***
thunderbird/run-mozilla.sh: line 159: 2517 Aborted "$prog" ${1+"$@"}".
The same happened when I tried to run the firefox-installer program.
I didn't have any issue installing either one of these programs when I was using 10.1.
Does anyone have any experience on how to fix this problem? I don't think I am the only one, right?
Thanks,
n00b

LE has firefox in the packages list. Try typing
in konsole. If it returns nothing install it from your CD.
P.S.:Even thunderbird is included try the same thing for mozilla-thunderbird.

Hi abattoir,
Thanks for you reply, I do realize that Firefox is included in the package, but I still would like to be able to install it manually for future updates and such. Besides, this problem I am having seem to be an inherited problem (incompatibility) between LE2005 and Firefox/Thunderbird, which I believe is worth spending some time to get it investigated/fixed.

It is always better to install from rpms, even in the future, rpms will be made for newer versions of firefox, which are way easier to install and run.The latest version of firefox is included in LE 2005, so why bother about the future now, if there is a newer version released, many of us will try it and if we get the same error, someone will surely find the solution. So as of now enjoy using the firefox include in LE 2005.
If you really have the time and the knowledge to solve your problem, you can go ahead and post the results here, somebody else will find it useful.
Else why bother about other stuff, when the stuff included works like a charm.
cheers.
bye.
