I am pretty sure this is a driver issue, but I dont really know where to begin. Using Amarok 1.2 while playing MP3 files and using firefox web browser, I seem to get some sort of interference (crackling sound) while data is transfering or clicking the mouse. Other distros dont do this and seems to be LE 2k5 specific. mdk 10.1 was fine from what I remember.

konquer seems to do ok. this is kinda wierd.

any thoughts, suggestions appreciated!

I dont think this is the solution to your problem, but I´d recommend using the gstreamer engine for amarok over aRTS.(You get an eq w/ great sound too).

Regarding the problem, maybe reinstallation of firefox and/or amarok would help?

first off, thanks for the ressponse. I installed the gstreamer stuff and still has same effect. I also completely removed firefox and reinstalled with no help. when i changed it to the gstreamer, osslink plugin was busy, so i tried the alsa and the auto, and still makes the noise.

i thought it might be a plugin issue, so i removed all, even the default libnullplugin.so but then firefox ran really sluggish and still had the interference noise.

this is too wierd. the noise almost sound like when a volume knob is dirty and when you adjust th sound you get the crackle noise. Except it does it only with fiefox running and you do anything with the window like minimize and maximize and also some noise during data transfer.

i am baffled by this.

any more ideas?

it might be that the computer that you are running on is too slow to handle both apps at once. Try running another high-demand app (like OO.o and Gimp) and then start rendering something in the Gimp, while listening to the music. If the cracling noise persists, then itis probably that.

Do you have foxy tunes installed?

Well I took this into consideration and started opening up as many programs as I could. I opened all of Open Office, all of Koffice, address book, planners, graphics programs, quantaa, konquerer... and the only thing it did when it got alitte short on resources was get dead air for about 1 sec then started playing again. no staticy type noises at all.

edited: note: all of these were opened at the same time. I had about 20 windows open at one time.

Nope, it is actually a fresh install of LE 2k5 (last night).


I do know that Kubuntu 5.04, suse 9.2, and MDK 10.1 didn't have this problem on this same computer (same hardware). all ran KDE.

bump? any other suggestions? I am actually redownloading mandriva dvd just in case my cd happened to be slightly corrupt ... i doubt it, but possible i guess.

Before doing that maybe you could download the latest version of firefox (1.0.4) and see if that works. You can uninstall mozilla-firefox package and install 1.0.4.

well I ended up removing LE and actually redownload the 3 cd's vs. the 1 dvd to see if this was an install issue. when I installed it, I installed without firefox and installed firefox 1.04.

the driver that my creative pci 128 sound card is using is the SND-ENS1371, i have tried the ENS1371 with same result. In amarok I am currently using the aRTS engine, but the gstreamer and xine have the same result. sounds excellent except for staticy when opening/closing, , minimizing/maximizing the window, data exchange, and operating the scroll bars in firefox.

this is a 1ghz Tbird processor with 512 mb ram.. i would think the resources would not be an issue. as previously posted, other distros dont do this, and have opened like 25 other programs to try and use resourcesand the most I get is a pause in the music for about 1 second when running low on mem and cpu.

any ideas/suggestions appreciated. I would love to fingure this out. got any suggestions who I can contact for this bug/issue???
