OK I was able to do all of the above. I got this at the end of ./configure, make, make install of kopete; I have shortened what was actually in my terminal window, but after installing kopete I cant open it with my run command by typing kopete, also I lost everything that use to be in my kde menu. In other words it's real little now when I drag up on it. Can I restore it? Please note: I rebooted and I get my KDE menu fine.

From the above posted info, it is difficult to say where kopete has been installed. You can see whether
Code:
/usr/local/kde/bin/kopete
works.
Regarding the menu what is missing? If the ¨Most used application¨ list is missing(or has no entries, it is not a major issue.

Do you have Kopete listed in Kmenu -> Internet -> Instant Messaging -> Instant Messenger (Kopete),

Good Morning, Kopete is not in /usr/local/kde/bin/kopete, when I downloaded the .gz file, it I moved the package to /home/stan/Documents/Kopete and installed from there.

I forgot to mention that after your steps I got gaim installed correctly and working, so now I have gaim and amsn inside instant messaging windows inside my KDE menu.

It looks like I have KDE 3.3 now and my menus are back to normal and actually look better, even my fonts look nicer.

Maybe a search for files named kopete will reveal where it has been installed.

Kopete

dolphans1--I saw you ran 'make' from the prior posts. After 'make' did you run 'make install' as root? If not, kopete is not installed and did you uninstall your old version of kopete? Last thought have you run urpmi update because I ran a Fedora update this morning and the kopete fix was part of it and in 10 seconds it was installed and now I'm using kopete in both Suse and Fedora.

Good Luck!

Still Unresolved

Hey guys through all my compiling I noticed that my KDE version is now 3.3.2.

I am still having one heck of a time installing Kopete and to be exact, I removed kopete version 0.9.3 and downlaosed and configured kopete-0.10.1.tar.bz2..

Let me explain what is going on here. I had an issue of not being able to sign into MSN Messenger using kopete I had been using for years. I too, kept getting the wrong password message like everyone else.

Make a long story short, I tried installing the new fix or build as advertised on your May 23rd 2005 site - Kopete 0.10.1 and Kopete 0.9.3 with fixes for MSN New standalone releases of Kopete out today to help people get a fix for the MSN issue. Kopete 0.9.3 should work with KDE 3.2 and above. Kopete 0.10.1 should work with KDE 3.3 and above. Please note that Kopete 0.10.2 will now ship with KDE 3.4.1. I originally tired installing version 0.9.3 because I had KDE 3.2, again to make a long story short, I had to install many things and got it installed, but never could open it up or run it through command box or terminal. Upon doing all my update, I noticed my KDE was upgrade to 3.3 version. So I removed kopete 0.9.3 and downloaded version 0.10.1.

I can run the configure just fine, but when I hit make or make install I get an error message.

Good - your configure finished. Start make now

[root@localhost kopete-0.10.1]#

When I run the "make" command I get the following error:

[root@localhost kopete-0.10.1]# make

Any hints or clues on what I should do? I am running Mandrake Community 10.1.

Should I just give up and abandon the idea of getting kopete to work?

I was trying to find rpms for you, then after going to the kopete site, i found that the new release was brand new (only a couple of days old) and hence finding an rpm would be very difficult.

What about kopete 0.9.3, i thought you already had it installed, did you run the search for files named kopete? After running the search you could post the path of different files so we can find where it has been installed.
The problem during compilation seems to occur when the french documentation is being installed.

I removed the 0.9.3 version and installed the 10.0 version. I just thought I would try something different since no one was responding and I hit a deadend wall. Someone sent me an email saying that kopete was just updated and all I needed to do was just urpmi the new version of it. I have not tried that yet but will.
