I was trying to do a full install from 9.1 to 9.2, twice I downloaded the ISO & burned it with Nero, and twice I got the same message this shows up at about line 15 of the boot up:
crc error <6> Freeing initrd memory: 3031k freed
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 01:03
The boot process stalls at this spot, I tried it a number of times - I've used Mandrake since 6.0 and have never seen a Kernel Panic. Read up on it, but never seen one before.
Hmm...I have almost the same hardware. I think that either a memory stick is bad, or something was messed up during the install. I'm sure that Mandy has nforce support in their default kernel....
Distribution: Mandrake 9.2 =<3 and Red Hat 8.0 (server)

Its not that, its something with the support for the filesystem you chose to use. When I recompiled my 2.4.22-10mdk kernel, I made the mistake of using reiserfs as a module and got the same exact error. I dont know why this is happening on a fresh install, but what FS are you choosing to use?

Thanks again & have a GREAT New Years
This is something that can't really be solved unless you download new ISO's. Honestly, unless you want to recompile your kernel and see whats up with the FS support. FS support cannot be modules, and it seems that yours is. Have you tried, ext3, journal, xfs as well?
wldkos - I went to your site and picked the ISO for Mandrake 9.2 - downloaded it burnt it ti disk with Nero in Windoze - did an alternate install with a floppy disk - went to my computer & followed the instructions & copied the CD.ing file to the floppy - re-booted, up came the flash screen for Mandrake - the boot up started 15 lines into the boot the same Kernel Panic message appeared
Didn't seem to make any differance as to how I tried to install 9.2 - the same message appeared
