KDE 3.4 upgrade & dual boot with another distro

As you can see by my profile - I am a newbie to linux, in fact I am quite a newbie to the command line, as I came straight into windows and totally missed DOS. Therefore (although I totally appreciate all responses) I am still having lots of trouble understanding them. Unfortunately if I am to make the transformation from Windows to Linux totally I am gonna need some serious neutering (I mean "For Dummies" or "For Idiots") neutering. I really really wanna make the switch to Linux, but every time a hit a problem i find it really hard to get simple, straight forward answers & solutions to solve the problem.

First of all I want to update my KDE 3.2 desktop to the latest 3.4 in the easiest and most trouble-free way (without the use of too much command line - if at all).

Secondly, I have also got a distro of Fedora Core 3 that I would like to have a look at (just for curiosities sake) can I easily dual boot with this? if so is it easy to do??

Cheers

i am installing kde 3.4 right now. i think the easiest way to do it is with the program konstruct which is available at http://developer.kde.org/build/konstruct/. it will download all of the necessary files, check their integrity, and make them.

dual booting is pretty simple, just allocate separate partitions for your installs. they can share the same swap space. then on whichever install you make second, run "lilo" and it should detect your installs. "grub" is another boot loader.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply, I did what you said and it downloaded files and tried to make the install etc etc but after absolutely ages of downloading and installing, it keeps failing saying Error 2 and Error 1
??

How was your install?

my install is still going, it is taking forever, but i haven't had any errors yet. does it say anything else along with "error 2"?
